Garden of Others

Pascal Sangl

Inspired by today's dating apps as a way to find love and life partners 'Garden of Others' shows how intimacy has changed in our relationships following the rise of online profiles and self-portrayal. In a society where physical appearance is so important, we increasingly forget how to connect. We rarely make eye contact. We barely touch. Yet, we judge and swipe away people by the second.

As part of the arts in education program "Kulturbühne" we, three young choreographers, created this dancetheater piece together with sixty fourth-grade students at Neurottschule in Ketsch, Germany.

Inspired by the example of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "Little Prince" we developed movement characters in exchange with the students and dealt with issues portrayed in the book.

Chiyo is a young woman with outstandingly beautiful eyes, a kind heart and ambitious dreams, whose name stands for “a thousand generations”.

She is a master of transformation, who manages to unlock an entire kingdom of imagination in one's mind with the smallest expression only. Her subtlety is magical and that's what makes the experience of watching so distinctively powerful.

Eine kleine Weisheit

Pascal Sangl

'Eine kleine Weisheit' shows a young man in continuous movement. The dominant sound of a ticking clock is building up to a strong force that pushes the young dancer to a point where he can't go on any longer.

The piece comments on today's pressure of optimizing oneself continuously.
